Three Unexpected Places You Might Find Gluten this Thanksgiving
Living a gluten-free lifestyle often requires a keen sense
of awareness about the foods around us so we can avoid accidental ingestion.
However, gluten sometimes hides in the most unexpected places, like chicken
broth, which may catch any uninformed eaters completely off-guard. To help you
navigate one of the biggest foodie holidays of the year, we’ve put together a
short list of places gluten may be pulling a 007-style presence.
1. Chicken Broth in Stuffing
Your stuffing may be made with our Schar Artisan Baker
gluten-free bread, but double check your chicken broth to make sure it’s
gluten-free! Better yet, use homemade chicken stock to be safe!
2. Sweet Potato Praline Topping
2. Sweet Potato Praline Topping
Those sweet potatoes with the buttery praline topping may
seem naturally gluten-free, but that sweet decadent toffee mixture around the
nuts may contain flour. Make sure to ask
your chef before diving in.
3. Butter
Now you all know about gravy and green bean casserole for
possible gluten, but this last one may surprise you. If someone at your table uses their bread
knife and smears butter on their wheat roll, and then goes back for more, that
butter is now contaminated. Be sure you have
a designated gluten-free stick available!
