Can You Trust An Item Labeled Gluten-Free But Not Made in a Dedicated GF Facility? | #AskAnne

One of the most frequently asked questions among those who switch to a gluten-free diet is if all products labeled "gluten-free" can be trusted. We asked resident dietitian and Director of Nutritional Services for Dr. Schar USA, Dr. Anne, to help answer this question in our new video series #AskAnne.

It really depends upon the manufacturer and their cleaning practices and diligence. Dedicated facilities will give you a level of safety and security you will not get in a non-dedicated facility. However, it also depends on the type of product. If the product is a dry or baked product where gluten-containing flour can be aerosolized, then no. If it is a wet type of food where the equipment would require thorough cleaning between batches - then yes, you could trust them.
